The board approved the appointment of Ben Kornell to fill the seat vacated by Carol Elliott. Ben will hold the position until November 2022.
Ben Kornell comes to the San Carlos School Board as both a parent and educator. He started his career as a middle school teacher in Alum Rock Union School District in San Jose. After witnessing the challenges of high-stakes testing firsthand, he has spent the last 15 years working with organizations to develop whole-child, learner-centered models of education. This includes time at San Francisco Unified, Envision Education in Oakland, and Guidepost Montessori schools. He also recently served as CEO of Altitude Learning, a technology platform supporting educational innovation. He is excited to bring his professional experiences to his home district, where next year his two sons Nico (9) and Sebastian (5) will be attending Mariposa and Heather respectively. Ben and his wife Juliana moved to San Carlos in 2014 and love to go for family hikes with their dog Bruno.
