SCSD Honors Board Member Neil Layton

Thank You, Neil Layton!

At last night’s board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Frentress, the Board of Trustees, staff, and community members came together to honor and shine a spotlight Neil Layton for his seven years of dedicated service to the San Carlos School Board (2017-2024).

Neil, who formally resigned following his election to the San Carlos City Council, has been a tireless advocate for public education. As a Trustee, he guided the District through pivotal transitions, including:
- Serving as Board President twice, notably during the pandemic.
- Helping hire Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Frentress.
- Providing leadership during the 2023 Facilities Master Planning process.
- Supporting critical budget stabilization efforts.

Before his time on the Board, Neil’s commitment to San Carlos shone through his service on the Parks and Recreation Committee, the San Carlos History Museum Board, and the San Mateo County Sheriff Activities League.

Neil’s leadership, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to students, staff, and schools have left an incredible legacy. While we’ll miss his presence on the Board, we know his dedication to our community will continue as he transitions to City Hall.

The Board has voted to fill this vacancy through a provisional appointment. For more information, visit the School Board Appointment Process webpage - https://www.scsdk8.org/.../School_Board_Appointment_Process

Thank you, Neil, for your service and leadership! 👏
