The San Carlos School District Board of Trustees has announced that after nearly 10 years of service to the District, Trustee Kathleen Farley will be retiring from the Board as of September 11, 2020.

The San Carlos School Board has determined that an appointment process will be held to fill the remainder of Trustee Farley’s term, which expires in December 2022. The Board selected an appointment process over calling a special election due to both the cost of the election to the District and the lengthy gap it would create in filling the seat. San Mateo County was formally placed on the State’s monitoring list as of Sunday, August 2, 2020, somewhat limiting the flexibility of local schools to pursue various in-person learning options to start the 2020-21 school year. With changing conditions, and several operational and human factors to consider, the Board of Trustees approved to start the school year with all students in a distance learning schedule.
