Special Education Programs and Services

San Carlos School District (SCSD) provides support to students with identified disabilities and is committed to providing a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) to all preschoolers and school-age students who qualify according to the laws and regulations outlined by the state and federal government. Special Education Services offer specialized instruction that benefits students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) within the least restrictive environment (LRE). We provide an innovative and engaging learning experience within our continuum of services across varying environments.

We strive to collaborate with parents and all team members to create successful environments for the academic, social and emotional development of the whole child. As professional educators, whether our role is in general education, special education, or administration, we believe it is our collective responsibility to support students who receive special education services to meet the District standards and their individualized education plans.

Through the assessment process, the goals and services are developed to meet the individual needs of the student with the collaboration of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team. Any member of the team may call an IEP meeting to discuss student concerns or to review progress.

If you have questions about Special Education programs or would like to request a review for assessment, contact Special Education at (650) 590-5947.

SCSD evaluates and serves students who reside within the boundaries of the district. Each student (including preschoolers) must be registered before the evaluation process may begin. When registering, please upload a copy of your student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), which will assist us in placing your student.

All requests for records for students who were served in special education at San Carlos School District should be sent to Teresa Vergez, [email protected], or faxed to (650) 508-7435. All requests must be in writing. The District, by law, must respond to parent requests for records within five business days. If a request is received after school hours, the date of the request will be the next business day.
