Personalized Learning
San Carlos School District’s goal is to provide ubiquitous and seamless access to appropriate technology to support student learning and development of Future Ready skills for all students, as detailed in the SCSD Strategic Plan. Our five-year target is for every student to have access at school and home to the suite of computing devices that will support their school initiated and individual learning objectives. We envision this to be some combination of tablet-based computing devices in lieu of today’s paper based textbooks and curricular materials and keyboard equipped laptops and desktops that support collaboration, project specific computing needs, and assessment systems. We will have explored and settled on models (One-to-One Computing, Bring Your Own Device, District Sponsored Purchasing Plans, etc.) for insuring that every student has the ubiquitous access to the learning device(s) and connectivity to meet our learning technology goals. We recognize the likelihood of unanticipated innovative technologies emerging that could profoundly reshape our understanding of how students learn and interact with others during this 5-year window.
The District presently supports a ratio of 3 to 1 mobile computing of primarily Chromebooks in Grades 3 through 8 and a ratio of 5 to 1 iPads in grades K through 2.
