504 Plan
Section 504 is a federal law designed to protect the rights of individuals with disabilities in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. This includes state and local education agencies, including school districts like ours.
A person with a disability is defined as a person who has a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities, except for impairments that are transitory (6-months duration or less) and minor. Examples of major life activities include functions such as walking, seeing, hearing, speaking, breathing, and learning.
It is the intent of the San Carlos School District that we support student’s with 504 needs according to the law. Thus, if you would like further information about 504 Plans, please contact your child’s school.
