Building Resilient Schoolyards in San Carlos

 

Extreme weather events are becoming more common and the San Carlos School District is taking action! Through the Resilient San Carlos Schoolyards Project, we partnered with Flows To Bay to create greener, storm-ready campuses.

 

Thanks to the California Resilience Challenge Grant, we’ve expanded from small-scale initiatives—like rain barrels—to large-scale climate solutions, including:

- Water-efficient irrigation systems

- Rain gardens to manage stormwater

- Tree plantings for shade & sustainability

 

With strong community engagement, we’ve designed resilient landscapes for our school sites and developed a roadmap for future improvements.
