San Carlos School District COVID Guidelines for 2023-24

For information on the most current COVID guidelines, please see the information and links below. SCSD will follow all local and state requirements regarding reporting of cases. SCSD will maintain its increased ventilation practices: SCSD has HVAC systems with Merv 11 filters and HEPA hospital-grade air purifiers to catch particulate matter and improve air quality. 

To report a positive COVID case:

STUDENTS/FAMILIES
Inform your school Administrative Assistant with the following information:

  1. Onset of symptoms (if any)
  2. Date of positive COVID test
  3. Most recent day at school

STAFF
Notify your supervisor and email the District Nurse ([email protected]) with the information above.

SCSD COVID Testing Plan

SCSD will continue to partner with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) for testing resources and support. CDPH is currently offering COVID-19 OTC tests to all county offices of education (COEs) for use by public and private school students and staff for return from various prolonged school holiday break testing, such as summer and winter breaks. If you need a COVID test for your student, please ask at your school office.

CDPH recommends that antigen tests be considered the primary option for detecting COVID-19 in schools, rather than PCR tests. Both the professional, on-site antigen tests as well as the OTC at-home antigen tests have been effective in identifying persons who have infectious levels of all known variants of SARS-CoV-2. PCR tests are highly sensitive, but their utility is greatest as a confirmatory test in appropriate situations and/or in clinical settings. When should you test?

  • If you feel sick and have symptoms of COVID-19 test right away. If your first test is negative, test again 1-2 days later.
  • After exposure. Even if you don’t feel sick, test after exposure and again 3-5 days after last exposure.
  • Before visiting those at high risk. Test just before visiting individuals who are at higher risk for severe illness (older adults or people with weakened immunity).
  • When traveling. Follow CDC travel recommendations.
