Community Engagement

The past few weeks during my school visits, I enjoyed hearing from our students. Whether it is Central Middle School students telling me about their essays, Arundel Knights sharing animal projects or showing off special skills in the Talent Show, Brittan Acres students naming plants in the BUGS garden, or students enjoying a book fair at their school, I love seeing the direct impact of our teachers and staff. We began the school year with a Restorative Restart, focused on well-being and learning and as spring arrives, we see growth and joy in our students.

We are a few days into what may seem like new territory – the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) now strongly recommends that masks be worn in schools and no longer requires them. However, many schools have been cautious about lifting their own requirements for masks until at least after spring break. Even in schools where masks are only strongly recommended, many teachers and students continue to wear them indoors in schools.

I sincerely hope this letter finds you healthy and enjoying the warm sunshine. Schools are in the midst of Kindness Week that featured fun activities at our all our TK-3 campuses. Congresswoman Jackie Spier invited students across the county to write messages to veterans in VA facilities and at Arundel Elementary, the Knights wrote Valentine letters to Vets and other local heroes.
